WormHome update

Just a short update from our wormhome. All things are going pretty well. The dutch alliance I’ve been talking about before is getting in shape. At the moment two dutch corporotions are in our alliance. A third one is also living with us in our wormhole, but they haven’t joined the alliance just yet.

With more people living in the wormhole it’s easier to start all sorts of gangs, since most of the time enough people are active. Our gangs are getting bigger. Training sessions are being held to instruct the newer players how to take on the sleepers. We’ve done a few of the toughest class 6 radar sites in-game, with success.

To finish off I’ll post a few screenshots for a nice impression of what we’ve been doing.

Forming a Dutch alliance

As some of you might know my corp, Black-Sun, consists ony of Dutch speaking pilots. Besides our corp a couple more Dutch speaking corporations exist in eve. For some of us it has been a long standing dream of creating a single Dutch front: a true Dutch alliance.

Recently we’ve been trying to get this goal going again. We’ve been speaking to most of the dutch corporations, inviting them to come live with us in wormhome. So far one corporation, Samhain, has accepted the challenge and is moving in with us. Already we’ve had a couple of battles with pilots of both corporations. Our ventrillo server is getting more lively and fun as more pilots find their way there.

Talks with other corporations are still continuing. We’re trying to get more of them join. A lot of corporation have show an interest in this. But as expected it will take some time, because most are involved in other things at the moment. But over time, we’re expecting a few more corps to come to our wormhole.

At first we’ll keep basing out of our wormhole. If the alliance gets too big in the (far) future, who knows what region we’ll take :) All in all it’s a very interesting journey that has started.

Battle report 26/08/2009

Today we had a good fight with a few people in a wormhole next to us. One of our blues (Horad) wrote a nice report on it in Dutch. I’ve translated it to English. The original Dutch report is on the bottom of this post as well. The killboard report can be found here.

A quiet night for the CEO, so loggin in for a bit to see how al my members are moving stuff around. Meanwhile, being a good boy, loggin into ventrillo. And then…

I entered the lobby and was about to settle in, when the call to join a quick roaming fleet came up. Unfortunately I didn’t hav e a good available yet, but Foxx helped me out with a manticore. After a quick chec (all mods online, ammo) I got an invite and left the lobby behind (to the ops channel). Everything went smooth, like I was in Black-Sun myself.

I warped to Foxx who probably wanted to take a last look at his beloved manticore. And there I was with Foxx and RiotRick on a wormhole. On the other side of the wormhole was Gemina with his ceptor fleet actively trying to overrun the enemies. We noticed pretty soon there were quite a few battleships on the radar. The more that showed up, the more the ‘yarr’ started popping up. Luckily Gemina (FC ceptor fleet) and RiotRick (FC of the rest of the fleet) kept everyone under control. The fleet was an example of discipline and passing on information. The scanner suddenly showed some fighters as well, so we had to watch out for a carrier as well. The intel kept coming in while our gang was patiently waiting at the worhole.

Then the intel came that a dominix warped in at 30km from our wormhole. The fc gave the order to point the domi and ordered the fleet to jump in. A few seconds later the interceptors had their ‘mission accomplished’ and the domi turned into a sitting duck. When a quarter of his armor was gone the domi got support from a second domi and a raven. They tried to remote rep the domi, but the dps from our fleet was cruising in. Down went domi number 1. At that moment a secondary target was already called long before: the raven. It’s shield failed  pretty fast, but it’s armor and hull went even faster. Soon the second domi got primaried. Meanwhile our unfortunate reds got some help from a scorpion and abaddon. But it only slowed down the domis downfall for a little bit. The scorpion was the next target, but it was a bit too far off for most of the fleet (80km), so we took the abaddon as a sideorder first. The interceptors did manage to scramble the scorpion, so we didn’t want to was this kill. While we were approaching the scorpion, a megathron arrived on the field, but it managed to warp off in time somehow.Later we noticed he had logged off.

After the scorpion went down it was time to scoop the loot and salvage the wrecks. While we were busy emptying the wrecks, the megathron pilot logged back on. This time he wouldn’t escape us. In no time at all we pointed him and my manticore could shoot at it in full glory. 30 seconds later another wreck appeared on the field and I got my first ‘final blow’ with BS. Again we could gather the loot. The worthless stuff  was destroyed. All in all the fighted lasted only about ten minutes, but the damage we had dealt was more than significant. We lost only 1 falcon, but that was nothing compared to the kills. Half an hour later we were comfortably back in the lobby with a well deserved drink.

The new graphics effects in apocrypha look really nice. The nos effect in combination with a sleeper laser make a nice blue/red glow. Take a look for yourself.

CCP announces Dust 514 @ GDC

CCP announced a new console MMO title: Dust 514. This MMO takes places on the planets in the EVE universe. It will be connected to EVE online. This could turn out into something truly amazing! I might have to buy me a xbox 360 when this is released.

  • ‘DUST 514′ is the name – looks very Halo. great feeling of warzone
  • Been in development for three years at CCP’s Shanghai studio
  • EVE players fight in space… Dust 514 players fight on the ground… both feed together to dictate control of systems in EVE universe.
  • it’s a massively multiplayer game that ‘connects’ to the EVE universe. Dust will become an ‘input’ into who controls planets in EVE
  • backstory to the ‘cloned’ soldiers coming in an upcoming EVE book
  • takes place on the planets of EVE Online
  • …it’s a hybrid FPS and RTS set within the EVE universe, for consoles. It’s CCP’s MMO for consoles!

    Some roaming action

Yesterday we had a 0.0 exit to the Omist region, territory of Atlas Alliance. We did a little roaming ops, with me as bait in my proteus. The rest of the fleet had a couple of battleships, a hic and a damnation.

Atlas didn’t throw a big gang at us. We did manage to make a few good kills without any losses. The killboard looks nice and green for that sunday.

Video: solo class 3 wormhole in Legion

I’ve recorded a class 3 anomoly in Legion. This anomoly was called ‘The Oruze Construct”. The wormhole I was in had a -24% “bonus” on armor repair. No combat boosters where used in this anomoly.

Unfortunately my fraps borked three times. So you will see black screen for a couple of seconds three times. I will record a new movie soon.

The movie is just uploaded. Usually it takes youtube an hour or so to be able to show the HD version. So if the quality is bad, just wait a bit.

Update 1: The youtube processing is finished. HD version is available now.
Update 2: Re-rendered the movie. It’s fixed now. Uploaded the new version to youtube.

Second attempt at soloing a class 4 wormhole

Yesterday I did a second attempt at soloing a class 4 wormhole. I started off in a Frontier Barracks anomoly. The same one I attempted the last time.

I had refitted my legion a bit, swapping out the 800mm plate for a True Sansha Heat Sink. The first two waves were no problem like the last time. The third wave (2 bs, 4 cruisers, 3 frigates) was the one were all the ships remote rep each other. Again like list time killing the webbing/scrambling frigates was no problem. Then on to the cruisers…. Well basically the same problem as last time. I got them into low armor then they got repped back up to full armor.

So back to WormHome for a refit. I swapped out the damage control for a second True Sansha Heat Sink. I went back to the same anomoly, so I could continue on the third wave. Still I had trouble killing the cruiser. But this time every now and then I managed to put a bit of structure damage on one of the cruisers. After about 10 minutes it finally blew up! Now with one of the cruisers gone, I had enough damage to break the others tank fairly quick.

So the first class 4 anomoly finished solo \o/ Didn’t I read on the forums somewhere class 4+ was impossible to solo :) This anomoly dropped 66mil in sleeper tags and a bit of salvage (11 NIM’s among the salvage).

Next I tried another anomoly. Can’t exactly remember the name. I’ll look it up when I get home. In this anomoly the first wave was no problem. The second wave spawned 4 battleships: 3 defenders and 1 safeguard. This was the first time I had seen a safeguard, so I had no idea what exactly it did. I moved in a bit closer to be able to hit them. Then I got hit with 4 webbers. My tank was holding up at one moment, then at another moment when the sleepers got a few good hits my tank seemed unable to keep up with the damage. On top of the when I got a bit closer, the safeguard bs also scrambled me.

I popped in a Standard Exile Booster, because I really wasn’t going to lose my legion here. Even with the booster I couldn’t tank the 4 bs too long. So I tried moving away from them, aligning to a moon. When the safeguard dropped it’s scram for a moment I warped off. Not to so succesful at this one. I might be able to survive this anomoly with my full tank fit though. But I didn’t try that.

I tried a third type of anomoly. Also can’t remember the name, I’ll update this post when I get home. This anomoly had 4 argos sentries a few cruisers and a few frigates in the first wave. Lot’s of webbing and scrambling going on but not too much damage. I chewed through it fairly easy. The second wave again consisting of quite a few cruisers and frigs. Webbing / scrambling action a lot again. Also to remote rep cruisers where added to the mix. Again not much trouble in this wave. The last wave spawned a safeguard (web/scram) bs and 4 cruisers. The cruisers where quickly dealt with, then onto the safeguard. Man… these ships can tank :) Took me about 10 minutes to take it down. All in all this was a fairly easy anomoly. This also reflected in the loot: just 35,5 mil in sleeper tags and 3 NIM’s.

Since it was getting pretty late I decided to call it a day and went back to WormHome. I got quite a bit of insight in the class 4 wormholes. If you solo you’ll make more isk/time in a class 3 hole. But the class 4 anomolies are definately soloable. Which is good to know, since this will give me more oppurtunities to make isk solo during the slow times as class 3′s and class 4′s spawn near our WormHome.

Update 1: The tough anomoly was called “Sleeper Information Sanctum”
    Update 2: Added some screenshots
